IN THE NEWSApplications are in for the 2015/16 PanHellenic Scholarship Awards! 03/03/2016
The applications are in! February 1, 2016 was the deadline for college students to submit their applications for the PanHellenic Scholarship Awards. The Foundation's Academic Committee, consisting of university faculty, is in the process of evaluating the applications, and all applicants will be notified of their results by the end of April. The Academic Committee will select 40 exceptional students to receive scholarships. A total of $250,000 in scholarships will be awarded again this year.
Applications were submitted by Greek American undergraduates from many colleges and universities across the country, and some of the nation's most prestigious academic institutions. These include Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, Northwestern, the University of Illinois, the University of Pennsylvania, Boston Conservatory, the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Southern California, the University of Florida, the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and the Manhattan School of Music, among many others. This year's scholarship applicants also represent a variety of disciplines, including science, engineering, math, the humanities, music, and the fine arts. "Every year, the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is privileged to receive applications from outstanding students from around the country, and we commend our applicants for striving to meet and surpass the Foundation's high academic standards," said Dr. Constantine Georgakis, Chairman of the Foundation's Academic Committee and Emeritus Faculty of DePaul University. "I am confident that this year, the scholarship application submissions will be as strong as in the past. I look forward to reviewing them along with the other members of the Academic Committee."
Robert Buhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors, duly noted, "We continue to honor the best and brightest Greek American students with scholarships so that they may pursue their academic and career goals and become tomorrow's great leaders. This year is particularly meaningful to us, as it is the first time the Foundation will fulfill its mission without the guidance of our Founder, Chris Tomaras. This year, we will preserve Mr. Tomaras' legacy through the scholarship awards by selecting recipients who also demonstrate his strength of character, his dedication to Hellenism, and his inspiring leadership."
