“This Foundation has a single mission: to promote education by which Greek American scholarship recipients become significant achievers and, guided by the values of their Hellenic upbringing, contribute meaningfully to the ongoing development of American society.”

BUILDING A BETTER AMERICA THROUGH EDUCATION AND HELLENISM

For centuries, Hellenism has been appropriated and re-contextualized by cultures across the globe – to their good and ongoing vitality. This was true in Rome, and it remains true in America today. As such, Hellenism is more than an historical legacy; Hellenism is a living concept, a body of humanistic and classical ideals associated with reason, the pursuit of knowledge, physical development, and civic responsibility.

Hellenism includes principles such as filotimo (a word that translates literally into love of honor but means much more: a moral sense of self worthiness and pride while being humble and considerate); philoxenia (hospitality at its deepest level, the sincere and wholehearted willingness to accommodate others); and philanthropia (the unrestrained eagerness to assist those in need). These principles live on and are deeply rooted in the character of our Hellenic youth.

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation believes that advanced education and the continued practice of Hellenic values and principles strengthen our civic fabric and deliver enlightened and engaged citizens.
