01/19/2017

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is excited to announce that Mrs. Anita Skarpathiotis has officially joined our Academic Committee. Mrs. Skarpathiotis is a Lecturer in Modern Greek at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in the Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies. She succeeds Dr. Anastasia Brelias on the Committee, who stepped down from her appointment this past fall.

"We are thrilled to have Mrs. Skarpathiotis on the Academic Committee of the Foundation. The Committee is essential to the success of the Foundation's signature scholarship program, and we are very proud of our distinguished members," said Robert A. Buhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors. "The Academic Committee is the cornerstone of this Foundation. They uphold our high standards of academic excellence as they review and select our scholarship award recipients each year. We cannot thank them enough for their dedication to the award recipient selection process, and for all of their time and effort spent on behalf of the Foundation. Mrs. Skarpathiotis, we are happy to have you on board and look forward to working with you."

Mrs. Skarpathiotis is an accomplished academic, whose principle interests are Modern Greek language and literature, and Modern Greek art and architecture. She received her BA from the Polytechnic University of Athens, Greece; an MA in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and an MA in the History of Art and Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In January 2012, Mrs. Skarpathiotis was recognized with the Hellenic Link Award for Recognition of Services for the Teaching of Modern Greek Language. She currently teaches the Modern Greek Elementary and Intermediate Language Sequence, as well as Modern Greek Culture, at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Mrs. Skarpathiotis will join Dr. Constantine Georgakis (Committee Chairman), Dr. Anastasia Giannakidou, Dr. Thanassis Economou, and Ms. Georgia Mitchell on the Foundation's Academic Committee. Throughout the spring, the Committee will review and select approximately forty outstanding applicants as the 2016-17 PanHellenic Scholarship Award Recipients. The recipients will be honored at the annual Awards Ceremony & Gala, which will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Hilton Chicago. Please join us as we honor this group of exceptional Greek American undergraduates!
